Morrilton – From Arkansas on Line, ADG – Brandon Baker, the director emergency management there, said four others were injured, two of them critically. They were airlifted to aLittle Rockhospital, while two others were transported to a local hospital. The first call of the collapse came at 12:20 p.m. Remodeling work was being done on the two-story brick building, and three workers inside said they got out and no one else was inside. Baker said search crews were preparing to clear an area that fell on the west sidewalk of debris. He said it’s possible people could have been the area when the collapse occurred. “Many people in Morrilton walk down the sidewalk at lunchtime,” he said. “… We’re going to clear every square inch of the structure.” The Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith said Monday rescue teams are searching the building for any other people trapped inside. But he believed most were out. Smith says one young girl died in the collapse. It’s not clear what caused it to collapse. The building, which housed a Merle Norman studio and was undergoing renovations another section, was one of the oldest ones in the small town 55 miles north ofLittle Rockon Highway 64.
