YOU GOT ANY IDEAS??? – When I started this project of making as many scrap quilts from other peoples leftover scraps and unwanted blocks, I didn’t realized at first that no matter how much you use up there is always some scraps left. I have a little trash can next to my machine on the floor by the ironing board. That is where I had been throwing all of my “scraps” when I was working on the tops. I ended up with a small trash can full of fabric. Every square inch of fabric can be used and remember: What you throw away costs you as much as you the fabric you keep. So, right before I was going to put that whole can full of fabric in the trash outside, I was reminded that I was really throwing money away. So, I went through it and pulled out pieces that were at least an inch square. I laid it all out and it was such a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes that I decide to start saving all my scraps and making blocks out of what I had been throwing away.
I found some redish color and decided that all my blocks would start of like a log cabin block and that would be the thing that ties all that chaos together. When I got enough I laid them out square. They didn’t do a thing for me. So I set them on point and they started to dance. I like this quilt, BUT I feel it needs a little something to make it pop. YOU GOT ANY IDEAS???
Maybe a yellow border? That would really draw out those specks of yellow in the blocks.
Hey Jim, I think this ‘scrappy, happy, slappy’ piece is fabulous – and I love the red as a boarder.
Not thrilled w/black edging – how about adding some single embroidered words of wisdom in the red triangular border pieces? Like maybe “Trash” “Treasure” “Love” – whatever you felt while making it
This can be your first “Green” Quilt – saving the planet by using up all the trash…
Jim, Well, you asked !! I think it already pops. I, too, think you might want something in the red triangles. I’ve no idea what, but you are so very creative, you can come up with something…OR, you can kindly just disregard my suggestion and that’s ok. You are doing a fine job with the scrap quilts!! pat
