Altered Art and Magazine Collages

Of course being and art teacher for 37 years and studying art in college and taking school and private art lessons all my life, I  have gone through any phases. But, one phase I haven’t jumped on big time was  altered art. One of the reason is I love making art out of normal things. But, for me there would be no stopping if I really got into it.  The first altered piece I guess I ever did was for my friend, Ruth Harris, in Oklahoma. She is a quilter and was the curator of the “Men of Cloth” exhibition  I participated in. As a surprise, I worked on an old globe for 3 weeks to find the right items and paper cutouts to do an “altered art” piece for her new studio. The reason I bring it up is I have made my second big altered piece for another friend. I can’t show it , because I haven’t given it yet. As most of you know, I do paper cutting and snowflakes.  As I am going through magazines I find pictures I think will make into interesting collages.  I have been corresponding with a quilter. It has been really fun to see what he is working on, etc. So, I mailed him a package of several things I sit and make in class. Here are a few of my magazine collages I sent him..  I love doing these.  I think God has a sense of humor and gets the weird the humor in my work. Hope you do.

Jim…Yes, God does have a sense of humor….and aren’t we glad. You certainly have shown us all over the years that you will try anything when it comes to making art. I say keep on making it and when you are happy, we are happy. As I often say: “You go, Big Guy!!” Can’t wait to see what you come up with next! pat

Jim…Last night when I read this post…there were no collage photos showing. Now there are.
OH, MY! When I said I couldn’t wait to see what you’d come up with…I had no clue it would be THESE! I must say you DO have a quite a sense of humor….and that’s good. By the way, I don’t think I’ve ever seen rubber duckies skinny dipping before! Which reminds me…I actually HAVE a mom and some baby rubber duckies here somewhere….wonder what mine will be doing?
    Carry on….pat

Just when you thought nothing else could be done to( I mean with of course) poor Mona. I love it but I think I might like the one about the Queen even more. They are great Jim.
