Paper Collages – “Lucas Goes to Morocco”

I get so tickled when people say, “You are so talented! I can’t even draw a straight line.” The difference in me and them is, I am smart enough to find and use a ruler. Making your own art is so easy. There is a new wave of everyday artists that slap paint on canvas or glue napkins over stuff and it is called art. Today art is not only drawing, painting, and sculpting realistically, it is mixed media, altered art, found objects, abstract, non-realistic. Anything goes!!! As an art  school teacher of 37 years I have had to come up with CHEAP ways to be creative in the classroom. One of the cheapest is art from magazines. Through the years I have taught paper collage units using found pictures out of magazines. I love it because it is only an old magazine, scissors, and glue. I posted some small collages I did for a friend a couple of weeks back. I moved some stuff and found 2 old collages I use for class examples. One is on faces and the other is on hands, all cut to one inch squares. But, here are some  new ones, too.

Well, Jim….there you go AGAIN!!! I expect next you will tell us that you are going to make 752 collages by New Year’s Day! You are definitely an over-achiever…..making me, the current and champion under-achiever feel pretty bad. However, there is, at minimum, one difference….I am trying to sleep at night! Guess we can just sit back and be amazed at what you take on next!!
And, that’s all fine and good as long as YOU feel good about doing it. Now, let’s see, where are my paper scissors so I can cut out some magazine pages?????? hugs, pat
