Clothes Shopping – I Miss the Old Greer’s Store in Morrilton

Well, a few weeks back I went to  Little Rock to the mall with friends. The gals were getting toes done and the guys went to Dillard’s clothes shopping.  I brought money and credit cards. Our old Greer’s store in Morrilton has been gone for about maybe 10 years, and I haven’t bought clothes since. Just an item here and there for special occasions. The reason is I did the displays and dressed the mannequins for many years for my friend Ray. I loved working there everyone was so friendly and fun to be with. Well, when anything that was 2 or 3 XLg and on sale for 1/2 of 1/2 I’d get it. That was when I weighed 288+ pounds. Now that I am sorta maintaining around 225 I had huge clothes just hanging off me.  I cleaned out closets and took everything that was way too huge to Salvation Armyshirts in Conway. If I had sold the clothes here at a yard sale I might  get $50. But, the Salvation Army has a list and the value on-line and you can take it off your taxes. I took 11 of the big garbage bags full of clothes and got $2,000 of my taxes. At school we have uniforms and I don’t entertain or socialize fancy, so I haven’t needed clothes. But, I was really getting down to the bottom of the barrel. I get things ruined so easy at school with paint and ink, etc. Well, back to Dillard’s. The first tie I picked up was $125.00!!!!!!! I collect ties. I have tons of ties. People give me ties. Sherry gave me a sack last week of ties. I have over 500 ties. I sew with ties. Then I went to the shirts. I wouldn’t have anything or wear it if you gave it to me. They had all this junk on it or hanging off it. Weird faded out colors. Writing or tattooed inspired designs. And just butt-ugly stuff. Now, if I was a pimp and had a good business I coud really find the clothes. Left and didn’t buy a thing. The last time I was in Texas we drove to Steinmart. It was like clothes heaven. I started grabbing and  made a huge pile and found just what I was looking for. You know being 61 and teaching at a private school ya just gotta be conservative. You can’t wear Hawaian shirts everyday with flip-flops. So, I had a blast, got wonderful things and  came home happy.
