Collecting Buttons – Gifts from Friends

Oklahoma city 016 (2)Buttons: Little individual miniature works of art.  When you collect buttons someone is giving you some. I have a friend Brenda in Morrilton that when she  goes junking, she finds cheap bags or jars of buttons for me. She dropped off at the house a bag the other day. On my way home  this week I saw a black van following me and when I pulled into the drive they parked behind me. It was a Alice. She had been cleaning out some of her mother’s stuff and her mother told her just to toss the bag of sewing stuff. Alice decided to bring it to me. I sat down and started a rough sorting to see if there were any unique or different ones.  I sort by color, material, pattern, or hole or shank type. Every collector sorts in different manners. I use muffin tins to do a lot of sorting. After the quick sort you always have plain, uninteresting and shirt buttons that I put into jars for crafts. When I had my sale a few years back I got rid of 50 gallon zip-loc bags of  everyday, normal, uninteresting buttons. I hadn’t sorted in a long time and it was a just afternoon. Thanks, Brenda and Alice!!!
