Christmas at Granddaddy Jim’s

This year our big family traditions were greatly changed. We had to start new traditions with our individual families.  I decided to have my kids: Blake, Cindy, Maggie, and Will, over at 2:00 for a late Christmas day lunch.  That way they could sleep late, open presents, and have their Christmas breakfast together. We invited Terry and Zoe, Blake’s step father and mother, and “Aunt Martha” and Uncle  Stewart,” Blake’s godparents.  I fixed snacks of meats, cheese, roasted peanuts, baked pecans, crackers, cheese straws, and fruit sparkling punch. For lunch I cooked what the kids wanted: Chicken and dumpling, green beans, carrots, creamed corn, potatoes and mushroom gravy, squash and onions, rolls, and garlic cheese biscuits.  For dessert Zoe brought a seven layer chocolate dessert, Cindy brought a pecan cobbler and ice cream, and Martha brought homemade cookies. We had a feast and boy did everyone eat. We cleaned off the dishes and put away most of the food before we opened presents. It was a very pleasant afternoon full of love and memories, and making new traditions.
